Fragiles Lumières de la Terre
The French-speaking West should be the envy of all those who live in a minority situation. Its schools, churches, cultural centers are so many exterior signs of vitality. But, historically, the presence of French-speaking communities remains attached to a long struggle to establish and maintain the French reality on this vast territory. The battles, which often climaxed in victory, were fought in the fields of law, education and economics. Can we sit back now and just live ? Hardly. Now more than ever, faced as we are with the globalization of a single culture which insidiously undermines our sense of belonging and identity, we must draw upon our more noble qualities of resistance.
